Wangari Maathai, Founder of the Greenbelt Movement,
participated in a ceremonial tree planting to launch
the East Palo Alto Trees Initiative. Gamo Da Paz and
Nikko S. Thompson were invited to bring students to
the event to perform for the honored guest. Funded
in part by the Peninsula Community Foundation’s
Emerging Artist grant, Gamo and Nikko provided free
after school drumming and dance classes to Eastside
College Preparatory students. Please see below for
